Plant Description and Operating Era

The Johns-Manville Waukegan plant on the Illinois lakefront produced asbestos board, asbestos-cement products, and related asbestos-containing lines through much of the twentieth century. According to publicly filed asbestos litigation records, the Waukegan plant employed hundreds of production and maintenance workers during the peak U.S. asbestos era.
